Dead Girls

Film Titles & Motion Graphics

The Dead Girls (Las muertas) is a Mexican limited television series based on the 1977 novel by Jorge Ibargüengoitia. The six-episode limited series, directed by Luis Estrada, debuted 2025, on Netflix. The Dead Girls is set in 1960s Mexico, which at first seems like a love story, but soon devolves into a historically-based, but fictional crime drama involving sex crimes and other felonies.

Motion graphics were developed using graphic elements, illustrations, headlines, and visual textures inspired by the Alarma magazine. A magazine that had an important role in the development of the story. These animated compositions support the storytelling by echoing the sensationalist style of the publication while revealing key themes of violence, mystery, and crime. The integration of typography, archival-inspired graphics, and dynamic motion creates a cohesive visual language that connects the title sequence with the series' historical setting and dramatic narrative.

The closing title sequence adopts a different visual approach, drawing inspiration from the typography of vintage typewriters. During the 1960s, police reports, investigative files, and newspaper articles were all produced on typewriters, making this visual language an authentic extension of the story's historical context. This concept also pays tribute to the Alarma! magazine reporter whose investigation became a crucial clue in uncovering the tragic events surrounding the Dead Girls. The mechanical rhythm of the typewritten text reinforces the investigative nature of the narrative while bringing the series to a compelling conclusion.
